Families are picked from official lists, not by an open online form, and you can check your name on pmayg.nic.in. What is PMAY Gramin?
PMAY-G replaced the Indira Awaas Yojana in 2016 with the aim of “Housing for All” in rural India. It funds houseless families and those living in kutcha or broken houses. The beneficiary builds the house, using local materials and trained masons, and can choose from designs suited to the area.
For 2024–29 the Cabinet approved a total outlay of ₹3,06,137 crore, with a central share of ₹2,05,856 crore and a state share of ₹1,00,281 crore. Houses left incomplete from the earlier phase were to be completed at the old rates. For city families, the separate scheme is PMAY-U 2.0.
Assistance under PMAY-G
| Support | Plain areas | NE and hill states |
|---|---|---|
| Unit assistance for the house | ₹1,20,000 | ₹1,30,000 |
| MGNREGS unskilled wages | 90 days | 95 days |
| Toilet (SBM-G, MGNREGS or other source) | ₹12,000 | ₹12,000 |
| Centre : state funding | 60 : 40 | 90 : 10 |
Hill states here means the North-Eastern states, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Union territories without a legislature get 100% central funding. The money is paid directly into the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account in instalments, linked to stages of construction. Some states add a top-up from their own budget, so check with your block office.

Beneficiaries come from the SECC 2011 Permanent Wait List and the Awaas+ lists. Priority goes to houseless families and those living in houses with 0, 1 or 2 rooms with kutcha walls and a kutcha roof. Lists are checked and approved by the gram sabha, with an appeal process for disputes.
In 2024 the government relaxed the exclusion rules for the new phase. Owning a two-wheeler, a refrigerator, a landline or a motorised fishing boat no longer excludes a family. A family is still excluded, as reported, if it has any of the following:
- A pucca house
- A motorised three- or four-wheeler or mechanised agricultural equipment
- A Kisan Credit Card with a limit of ₹50,000 or more
- Any member earning more than ₹15,000 a month
- A member in government service
- A registered non-agricultural enterprise
- A member paying income tax or professional tax
- 2.5 acres or more of irrigated land, or 5 acres or more of unirrigated land
At least 60% of the national target is set aside for SC/ST families. Landless families also get priority, and states are asked to include persons with disabilities where possible.
Awaas+ 2024 survey: how new families are added
There is no general online application for PMAY-G. To add families left out of earlier lists, the ministry uses the Awaas+ 2024 mobile app. It supports:
- Assisted surveys by pre-registered surveyors at the panchayat level
- A self-survey option for eligible households
- Aadhaar-based e-KYC with face authentication
- Geo-tagged, time-stamped photos of the present house and the site for the new house
- Offline use where the network is weak
Survey windows are set state by state. Ask your gram panchayat secretary, the block development office or the PMAY-G cell in your district whether the survey is open and how to be included.
How to check your name in the PMAY-G list
