East–West corridor: Charbagh to Vasant Kunj

The East–West corridor (Phase 1B) will connect Charbagh with the old city and Vasant Kunj. The Union Cabinet approved it on 12 August 2025 at a cost of ₹5,801 crore.

  • Length: 11.165 km, of which 6.879 km underground and 4.286 km elevated.
  • Underground stations (7): Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Chauraha, Chowk.
  • Elevated stations (5): Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, Vasant Kunj.
  • Interchange: Charbagh, with the Red Line.
  • Status: the elevated section contract was awarded in May 2026, and the underground section was at the tender stage in late 2026. Completion is expected around 2029–2030.

When it opens, Lucknow’s metro network will be about 34 km long and will serve crowded areas such as Aminabad and Chowk, where road travel is slow.

Other proposed metro lines

Extensions such as Munshi Pulia to Jankipuram, Charbagh to SGPGI and a longer corridor towards IIM Road have been studied, and a draft city mobility plan proposes several more corridors. None of these had final approval at the time of writing, so treat them as proposals, not confirmed lines.

Lucknow Metro and property: what buyers should know

  • Areas on the Red Line: Amausi and Transport Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Alambagh, Charbagh, Hazratganj, the university area, Kapoorthala and Aliganj (near IT College and Badshah Nagar), Indira Nagar and Munshi Pulia.
  • Areas on the upcoming East–West line: Aminabad, Chowk, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Musabagh and Vasant Kunj.
  • Homes within walking distance of a station usually rent faster and hold value better, but prices near stations already reflect this. Compare the price per sq ft with nearby areas before you pay a premium.
  • For proposed lines, buy on today’s facts, not on announcements. Routes and dates can change until a line is approved and under construction.
  • Check the circle rate, the LDA or Awas Vikas approval and the UP RERA registration of any project you consider.
