A jamin mojani calculator works out the area of a piece of land from its measured sides. Jamin mojani (land measurement) is the common term in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Enter the four sides and one diagonal of your land in feet, metres or yards, and the calculator gives the area in guntha, acres, hectares, square feet, square metres and gaj.

How to measure land for jamin mojani
- Mark the four corners of the land and call the sides A, B, C and D in order.
- Measure each side along the boundary with a tape.
- Measure one diagonal: the straight line from the corner where sides A and B meet to the corner where sides C and D meet.
- Enter all five numbers in the same unit and read the area.
The calculator splits the land along the diagonal into two triangles and adds their areas (Heron’s formula). This is the same method surveyors use for a four-sided field.

Official land measurement
This calculator gives an estimate. For a legal boundary or area, for example before a sale, a partition or a dispute, you need an official measurement (mojani) by the state land records or survey department. In Maharashtra this is applied for online through the land records department’s e-Mojani service; in other states, ask the taluka or tehsil land records office. Compare the result with the area on the 7/12 or record of rights.

Frequently asked questions
What is jamin mojani?
Jamin mojani means land measurement. It is the term used in Maharashtra and Gujarat for measuring the boundaries and area of a plot or field.
How do I calculate land area from four sides?
Measure the four sides and one diagonal. Split the land into two triangles along the diagonal, find each area with Heron’s formula and add them. The calculator does this for you.
How many square feet are in 1 guntha?
1 guntha is 1,089 sq ft, and 40 guntha make one acre.
Can I measure land area with only the four sides?
Not exactly. Four sides do not fix the shape, so the area can vary. One diagonal is needed for an accurate result.
Is the calculator result valid for registration?
No. Registration and land records use the official area. Use this calculator as a check, and apply for an official mojani if you need a legal measurement.
How do I apply for official land measurement in Maharashtra?
Apply through the land records department’s e-Mojani service, pay the fee for the type of measurement and attend on the date given. Check the current process on the department’s website.

Local units such as bigha and biswa vary by state. This calculator gives an estimate from the measurements you enter; the official area of a plot is the one in the land record, the approved layout or a government survey. Check it before you buy, sell or register property.
