Bangalore Metro fare after the 2025 revision

BMRCL revised fares on 9 February 2025. After public complaints, it corrected them on 14 February 2025, capping the largest increase at 71.43%. A further 5% increase planned for 9 February 2026 was put on hold at the state government’s request, so the 2025 fares still apply.

Distance Fare Distance Fare
0–2 km ₹10 10–15 km ₹60
2–4 km ₹20 15–20 km ₹70
4–6 km ₹30 20–25 km ₹80
6–8 km ₹40 25–30 km ₹90

  • Smart card discount: 5% on every trip, plus another 5% in off-peak hours (before 8 AM, 12 PM–4 PM and after 9 PM on weekdays). Sundays and national holidays also get 10% off.
  • Minimum balance: keep at least ₹90 on a smart card to enter.

Tickets: smart card, NCMC and QR

  1. Mobile QR ticket: buy on the Namma Metro app or through BMRCL’s WhatsApp ticketing, pay by UPI and scan the QR at the gate. Group QR tickets cover up to six people.
  2. Smart card: buy at station counters and top up at stations or online. It gives the discounts above.
  3. NCMC card: the National Common Mobility Card also works at Namma Metro gates.
  4. QR travel passes: since January 2026, unlimited-travel mobile QR passes cost ₹250 (1 day), ₹550 (3 days) and ₹850 (5 days), with no deposit.

Timings and frequency

  • Purple and Green lines: first trains from about 5 AM Monday to Saturday and 7 AM on Sundays; last trains from the terminals and Majestic around 11 PM.
  • Trains run every few minutes at peak; gaps are longer off-peak and on the Yellow Line. Check line-wise timings in the Namma Metro app.

Phase 2, 2A, 2B and 3: what comes next

  • Phase 2: the extensions and the Yellow Line are complete; the Pink Line remains.
  • Phase 2A and 2B: the Blue Line (approved April 2021), Silk Board to KR Puram (2A) and KR Puram to KIA via Hebbal (2B).
  • Phase 3: approved by the Union Cabinet on 16 August 2024 for ₹15,611 crore. It adds the Orange Line, Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase (about 32 km), and Hosahalli to Kadabagere on Magadi Road, expected in the early 2030s.
  • Phase 3A: a proposed Red Line, Sarjapura to Hebbal (about 37 km), cleared by the state but still awaiting central approval.

Metro access and property: what buyers and tenants should check

  • Walking distance matters most. Homes within a short walk of a station usually rent faster.
  • Premiums are already priced in near Purple and Green line stations. Compare the price per sq ft with nearby areas.
  • New access: BTM Layout, HSR Layout and Electronics City (Yellow Line) and Bannerghatta Road (Pink Line).
  • Buy on facts, not announcements. Phase 3 and 3A lines are years away.
  • Check the paperwork: RTC or khata records, BBMP property tax, Karnataka RERA registration and the guideline value.
